If you are looking to build the world record airplane, here is a quick tutorial you can use to build it. Remember, the most important thing is learning how to throw the paper airplane. So you have to really not only perfect the airplane, you need to know how to throw it properly.
What you need
- 1 sheet of paper (US Letter or A4)
- A flat surface
- Sharp creases (this matters for the CX-22)
Step-by-step: CX-22 Paper Airplane
1. Start with a vertical sheet
Place the paper portrait-style (tall, not wide).
2. Fold in half lengthwise
Fold the paper top to bottom, then unfold it.
👉 This center crease is your guide for everything else.
3. Fold the top corners to the center
Take the top left corner and fold it diagonally to the center crease.
Repeat with the top right corner.
You should now have a point at the top, like a house roof.
4. Fold the new angled edges to the center again
This is what gives the CX-22 its sleek nose.
- Fold the left slanted edge to the center crease
- Fold the right slanted edge to the center crease
The nose should now be long and narrow.
5. Fold the plane in half
Fold the entire plane along the original center crease, bringing one side over the other.
Make sure the nose lines up cleanly.
6. Create the wings
This step sets performance, so go slow.
- From the folded edge (top), measure about 1 inch (2–2.5 cm) down
- Fold one wing down so the bottom edge lines up with the body
- Flip and repeat on the other side
Both wings should be even.
7. Add small winglets (important!)
At the back of each wing, fold up a tiny vertical fin (about ¼ inch / 0.5 cm).
👉 These winglets dramatically improve stability.
Final adjustments (this is the secret sauce)
- Gently bend the wings upward slightly (dihedral angle)
- If it dives → bend the back edges up a tiny bit
- If it stalls → flatten the wings slightly

- Hold it just behind the nose
- Throw smoothly, not hard
- Aim straight or slightly upward
